How to answer the academic prompt on the ELPAC

What is the academic prompt?
The academic prompt always has a graph for you to read.
a. After reading, the ELPAC will ask you two questions about the academic prompt.
b. You need to use the information from the graph to write your answer.

Vocabulary
You need to know these words
graphic organizer: a chart that you use in class. It can be look many different ways.
storyline: the events that happen in a story or a narrative

Instructions:
Look at the graphic organizer and make sure you understand it.
What does the graphic want from me?
What is the graphic about?
Read the question to yourself
Use words FROM THE QUESTION in your answer.
Write the amount of sentences the question asks you to write.
Make sure you use words FROM THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER in your response.
If you do not use the words from the prompt and the graphic in your response OR if you don't follow directions, you will get a zero.

ELPAC Question:
One of your group members, Shari, thinks the story, Priya’s Day, has a sad ending. Using the information in the graphic organizer, explain to Shari why Priya’s day has a difficult beginning, but a happy ending. Make sure you write a paragraph of at least three sentences.

Example response: Priya’s Day does not have a sad ending. This story has a difficult beginning because when Priya wakes up she misses the bus, rides to school in the rain, loses her homework, and is worried about her day. Luckily, her friend comes to school after Pryia and finds her homework. This is a happy ending because does something nice for her friend.
ELPAC Question:
One of your group members, Shari, thinks the story, Priya’s Day, has a sad ending. Using the information in the graphic organizer, explain to Shari why Priya’s day has a difficult beginning, but a happy ending. Make sure you write a paragraph of at least three sentences.
