Was the Conquering of the Aztec Empire a necessary event for the
modernization and development of what would become Mexico?

Preparation:

1. The class will be divided into two groups.
2. Do research into the pros and cons of the Spanish conquest.
3. Write a 30-45 second "speech" arguing for the side you have been placed

on.

4. You're ready to present!

Debate Process:

1. You will be matched with someone arguing in favor of the opposite point

of view.

2. When it is your turn, you will go to the front of the room and play "rock-

paper-scissors" to see who goes first.

3. Both sides give their speeches.
4. The teacher decides which team earns the point for that match up.
5. Continue process until each group has gone.
