Author Background

Mora's poem is about Sor Juana, a Mexican nun who lived from approximately 1651 to 1695. One of Mora's hopes is to honor her Mexican heritage.
Sor Juana is an excellent figure for Mora to include in her poetry since she was a gifted person who defied expectations. She was born to a single mother who forged her own path.
Sor Juana's intelligence impressed everyone she met, and it was clear she needed further education.

recall details about the unit's narrative writing project
11
Relative pronouns are words that introduce a dependent clause within a sentence.
They help connect a dependent clause to the independent clause and clarify relationships between different sentence parts.
Relative pronouns help identify and give information about the subject of a sentence.
Additionally, they act a little like conjunctions because they connect a dependent clause to the rest of the sentence.

Narrative writing tells a story. It is one of the main types of writing and reading that you may do in your everyday life!
The goal of narrative writing is to engage the reader and take them on a journey through the events of the story.
Along the way, they may learn things about themselves and the world around them.
It may help to narrow your focus to one of the following:
tell a story about a time in which the main character(s) affected a family member;
tell a story about a time in which the main character's actions affected a friend; or
tell a story about a time in which the main character's actions affected a stranger.
Remember, you can write a nonfiction event from your life or something you imagine.
