  • Han Dynasty: production of rice 

  • Tang Dynasty: development of exotic and highly specialized foods

  • Song Dynasty: trade and the growth of manufacturing jobs allowed for a better quality of life and easier access to food.

  • Yuan Dynasty: China established its first contact with the West, opening the door to foreign food ingredients and cooking techniques.

  • Ming Dynasty: sea trading routes were established, worldwide trading became much simpler; access to many new species of plants, animals, and food crops (sweet potatoes, peanuts, maize)
