1. What is a verb phrase?
A verb phrase is a collection of verbs that go together.
I am trying
The children should have gone home afterwards.
By next year, I will have taught for 18 years.

Here are some examples:
I am walking. ("am walking" is the verb phrase.)
Much of the time, "ing" words aren't verbs at all.
Walking to school is fun. (In this sentence, "walking" is actually a noun).
That teacher is really annoying. (In this sentence, "annoying" is actually an adjective.
2. A note: "ING" words are NEVER VERBS BY THEMSELVES.
