Your resume should only be one page.

Employers do not want to read a book.

It should be a snap shot of you and your experience.

You should include:

  • Your name and contact info. (not including address)

  • Past employment.

  • Skills.

  • Awards / certificates

Screening call..

If they receive 100 resumes they are not going to call everyone.
There might be 40 people they call and pick 10 for a face to face interview.
This is their way of eliminating people.
You must have a great resume.
You must do very well on the screening call.
Lastly you have to nail the interview.

You have to ask to get!
If you get a screening call you should ask about moving forward with the interview.
They may only be selecting their 10 by who asks to move on and shows the interest in wanting the opportunity.

Searching information about the company will impress them.
Their history, what they do/make, or how they have progressed as a company.

Be sure to have a minimum of 4 copies of your resume and references.
Put everything in a folder.
Out of high school you do not have work experience, but you do have shop experience.

Be sure to include pictures and blueprints of what you have done in high school in your folder.

This can DRASTICALLY change the direction of your interview and place you in control.

When you walk into an interview you should give a firm handshake.

Be sure to make eye contact.

Try not to use words like umm.

Speak clearly.

Do not mumble or whisper.

People often think that no matter what job you are interviewing for, you should dress your best.

That is not true.

If you are going for a machining job, you can dress in nice jeans or uniform pants and a plain T-Shirt or polo. The job is considered blue collar so no need to dress in your best. A lot of people will go to interviews after getting off work and so it is not uncommon to not look like you're about to go to a 5star restaurant.

Simply tell them what you are good at, organization, handling hard situations, working under pressure, whatever it may be and give a simple explanation nothing too long.

You can answer this with the research you did prior to the interview.

Try not to use over used generic answers.

For example the word "appropriate" may never get used. You can briefly explain "whatever situation I am in, I always conduct myself appropriately."

Be sure to stand out from the rest.
