OBJ: I will learn about gravity.

DOL:

Given 5 questions, I will be able to determine how gravity affects objects by comparing gravitational force between objects and explain how mass, distance and air resistance have an effect on gravitational pull, answering with 100% accuracy.

Response Card-Describe the direction of Gravity's force.

Multiple Choice

Whiteboard+1 or 2 words-

How does the gravity of the Earth affect objects around it?

1

A. It pushes objects away from the Earth.

2

B. It pulls objects toward the Earth, making them fall down.

3

C. It makes objects float in the air.

4

D. It has no effect on objects.

Gravity is a fundamental force that shapes our universe. It's what keeps us on the ground and what makes things fall. But did you know that every object has its own gravity? Gravity is a force that arises from the interaction between two objects with mass.

Anything that has mass also has gravity. The more massive the objects, the stronger the gravitational force.

The greater the distance between two objects, the less gravitational force there is.

Gravity is a universal force because it exists between any two objects with mass anywhere in the universe.

How can you determine how much gravity an object has?

4

Whiteboard+1 or 2 words!

The amount of gravitational pull depends on an object's _____.

  1. Size

  2. Location

  3. Shape

  4. Mass

5

Earth's gravity pulls on all objects with the same force. You may be thinking: That can't be true, because a bowling ball falls to the ground faster than feathers! However, the feathers reach the ground slower because of air resistance. They get pushed and pulled by the air on the way down. If you were to enter a vacuum, a space with completely no air, and drop a bowling ball and a feather at the same time, both would be pulled to the Earth at the same speed and reach the ground at the exact same time.

SCR-

Why do feathers take longer to reach the ground if the Earth’s gravity pulls on objects with the same force?

6

R&A-

Feathers take longer to reach the ground because of air resistance, even if gravity pulls on all objects with the same force..

C-

In the text it states, “ the feathers reach the ground slower because of air resistance. They get pushed and pulled by the air on the way down.”

E-

This means all objects may fall with the same force of gravity but other forces may affect it to fall at a different rate.
