Students are going to perform and describe rotational transformations of geometric figures.

Concept:

Geometric Rotation

The rotation of a figure about a fixed point. Rotations are rigid transformations, so the figures are congruent, but may have different locations and/or orientations.

ProcedureS: Rotations

When rotating a point (x, y) around the origin.

1) A 90 degree clockwise rotation results in (y, -x).
2) A 90 degree counterclockwise rotation gives (-y, x).
3) 180 degree rotation (clockwise or counterclockwise) gives (-x, -y).
