How would you describe this topic?

9

Word Cloud

What is the strongest magnet in the world?

10

We have the North and South pole that directs our compasses.
We have a magnetic field that governs the movement of the sky, land and seas

Why is the Earth's magnetic field important?

13

Why is the Earth magnetic?

It's probably due to the magnetic core.

The core of the Earth is made out of molten and solid iron and nickel, both being magnetic metals. The constant movement of the core probably creates the magnetic field of the planet.

Magnetize, Magnetic

No, they are not Pokemon names.

Most metals are magnetic - they are attracted to a magnet.

These metals are also able to be magnetized - we can make them temporary magnets

16

Multiple Select

What items do we need to create a temporary magnet?

1

A magnet

2

A metal

Homework: Find out five uses of electromagnets from the internet.

21

How do we increase the strength of an electromagnet?

There are three ways we can make an electromagnet stronger:
1. Increase the current.
2. Increase the number of coils around the metal core.
3. Use a soft metal core.

Drag and Drop

The more coils there are around the wire, the weaker the electromagnet.

Question image

Jackson and Peter are making electromagnets. Peter is certain he will win with his electromagnet. He uses two AA batteries and makes 25 turns around his metal core.

Jackson intends to build a stronger electromagnet. How should he do it?

27

Homework!

Go home and read more about making an electromagnets.

In your Science groups, discuss on making a strong electromagnet.

We will have an electromagnet building battle on Friday.

More Homework?

Oh, and don't forget to do 9.4A and B on your workbook.
