Introduction to Literature Circles Part I
Learners can:
recognize the role and purpose of a literature circle
select a book for literature circles
form a prediction about their literature circle book
3
Your ELA course is designed to give you the opportunity to explore different stories from different authors.
Many of them you read together in class, but sometimes, like in this unit, you get a choice.
During this unit, you will complete a literature circle.
Literature circles are a small group activity, where students read one book and examine that book in depth.
Literature circles will function a little differently online.
Literature Circles
4
Literature circles will help you see yourself as a reader because literature circles allow student choice, collaboration, discussion, and independence. You and your peers have a chance to direct your learning and support each other.
Purpose
Along with discussing the book, you will complete different jobs that focus on reading comprehension. Each job will help you analyze the book from a different perspective.
Classmates who are reading the same book as you will benefit from seeing your perspectives and ideas. It will help them gain a deeper understanding of the book.
