Understanding Carbon Emissions

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions: Primary contributor to global warming

Average individual contribution: 48,000 pounds of CO2 annually

Main sources: Burning fossil fuels for heating, cooling, and energy
consumption

Goal: Reduce personal carbon footprint through small daily changes

Benefits: Environmental protection and potential cost savings

9

Household Energy Efficiency

Showering:

Reduce shower time by 2 minutes: Save 340 pounds CO2/year

Install low-flow showerhead:

Reduce water usage by 20,000 gallons/year

Decrease heating costs by up to 16%

Lighting:

Replace 75-watt incandescent with 19-watt CFL:

Reduce 50 pounds CO2/year

Longer lifespan, fewer replacements

Refrigerators:

Choose Energy Star-rated models:

Reduce over 500 pounds CO2/year

Maintain properly: Check door seals, clean coils

10

Lifestyle Choices for Carbon Reduction

Diet:

Typical American diet: Over 3,000 pounds CO2/year

Reduce red meat consumption for significant impact

Recycling:

Recycle paper, plastic, and glass:

Avoid 1,000 pounds CO2 emissions/year

Laundry:

Wash half of loads in cold water: Save 500 pounds CO2

saving money and reducing environmental impact. Commuters can cut daily expenses by 20-30%, sharing costs such as gas, tolls, and parking. Moreover, carpooling slashes CO2 emissions by 50% per passenger mile, contributing to a greener planet.

transportation use

Using energy sources to energize your house. What energy source does your local powerplant(grid) use?

Household green energy

temperatures at home need to be consistent, air conditioning is best practice with consistent temperature than turning it off and on

sustainable action

Conclusion: Your Impact Matters

Small changes can lead to significant reductions in CO2 emissions

Potential to prevent up to two tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere

Individual actions contribute to global climate goals

Financial benefits alongside environmental impact

Take responsibility for your carbon footprint
