Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone
Chapter 6
"The Journey from Platform Nine and Three Quarters"

In England, boarding schools are unique because students don’t just go there for classes—they actually live at the school full-time during the term! Each student has a room in a dormitory (often called a "house") where they sleep, keep their belongings, and share common areas with other students in their “house.” Some rooms are shared with roommates, while others might be for one student, depending on the school. Dormitories have houseparents or teachers who live nearby and help students feel at home, like a family away from family.
Living at school means students eat their meals in a big dining hall, where they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner together every day. There’s a set schedule for meals, classes, study times, and even “house meetings,” where students can talk about their day, ask questions, or just spend time with friends. Students usually have structured time for studying or doing homework, but they also get free time for sports, games, or hobbies, like art or music.
Because they live at school, students learn how to be more independent—taking care of their own room, laundry, and organizing their daily tasks. They also become very close with other students, building friendships that can feel like family because they’re together all day, every day.
