Essential Question- How does the president manage the executive branch efficiently?

The President/CEO of the Country

•In the world of business, the leader of a company is called the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) think of
the President like the CEO of the country

•They must carry out the duties assigned to them in the Constitution

•Carrying out the laws

•Commanding the Military

•Managing Foreign Policy

•Appointing High Ranking Officials and Judges

•With the vast size, scope and responsibilities involved
the president must rely on a Cabinet of Officials to
help them run/manage the country

The Cabinet

•Creating a Cabinet is one of the implied powers
that the president has in Article II (2)

•In more modern times the Vice President is a key
player in cabinet meetings

•Each Cabinet Post is the leader of an Executive Department- the administrative divisions under the executive branch that are responsible for carrying out laws

•The Senate will provide advice and consent in
the approval of these positions

•These cabinet members are also in the line of
succession for the presidency should something happen

The Executive Office of the President

•The Executive Office of the President (EOP)- helps manage the growing administrative responsibilities of the president, provides advice, policy expertise and communicates to the public

•The people who work in the agencies in the EOP are called
Civil Servants- civilians who are employed by a federal
administrative agency

•Three Major Parts

•The National Security Council (NSC)- advises on foreign
policy and security issues

•The Council of Economic Advisors (CEA)- provides
domestic and global economic expertise

•The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) - reviews legislative and executive branch proposals to assess their effects on the budget (how much they cost)
