A hobby is an activity that you do for pleasure when you are not working. Hobbies enhance your personal growth and offer a source of enjoyment and relaxation.

For example, hobbies often involve social interactions. You might join a club or group as part of your hobby, which means you are a part of a community of like-minded individuals who share your interests. This can lead to the formation of meaningful relationships and social connections.

Hobbies outside school and work can also help prevent burnout by getting you to step away from responsibilities and recharge your mental and emotional batteries.

Knowing your skills is a fundamental part of career planning. Understanding your skills will ultimately help you find fulfillment and success in your chosen career.

You may already know some of your skills, but connecting them to a career can sometimes be difficult. Today, you will take a self-assessment to help connect skills to a future career.

You will take a skills matcher assessment to discover which careers match your skills. The Skills Matcher from CareerOneStop will review 40 skills and create a list of career matches based on your response.

13

The question to the right includes a description of the different levels of experience that would align best with the category of beginner, skilled, or expert in the particular skill of administration and management. You will decide where your skills best fall on the scale for each question.

After rating 40 skills, you will be given a list of careers that match those skills. Your list of careers is ranked in order of how well they match your skills. You will be able to sort the careers depending on the amount of education you would like to receive. Move on to find out how.

A wage is the amount of money that a worker is paid based on how much they work. So, an annual wage is how much money a worker makes in a year.

Wages

16

Wages are important to keep in mind when choosing a job because they influence many parts of your life, such as:

  • where you live, like paying for rent or a mortgage;

  • how you get around, such as car costs or public transportation; and

  • your ability to enjoy leisure activities.

It is important to have a wage that supports your current needs and helps you save for the long term. This means being able to cover your bills while also saving for retirement and emergencies. Achieving wages high enough for all of this may not happen right away, but planning for a career with advancement and growth opportunities will help.

Choosing a career with a bright outlook is more likely to offer job security since the industry is growing. Still, while a favorable job outlook is important, it is not the only factor to consider. If you have interests, skills, and values that better align with a career with an average or below-average outlook, you should still check it out! Ultimately, a successful and fulfilling career combines a positive job outlook with your aspirations and abilities.
