One of the most successful times in exploration is known as the Age of Exploration, which lasted from the 1400s to the 1600s.
Many famous explorers lived during this time. Their expeditions,or journeys, were long and dangerous.

The reasons explorers set out to make discoveries have changed overtime. Some wanted to gain wealth by finding and trading items.
Others wanted to own new land.
Others were curious and wanted to learn about the world around them.

In 1775, the American colonists began to fight for independence from England.
This led to the American Revolution which lasted from 1775 to 1783.
During the war, the 13 colonies worked together for their freedom.

To Colonize means to settle among and take political control over the native people living in an area.
By the seventeenth century, England ruled 13 North American colonies.

It outlines the government's structure. The Constitution shaped the future of the United States.

The Civil War was a major event in United States history.
The Civil War had important effects on the United States' future.
It took place from 1861 to 1865 and was fought between the country's northern and southern states.

Ending Slavery
The main point of disagreement was whether slavery should be allowed.
The northern states were against slavery, while the southern states wanted to keep it.
The northern states won the war, and slavery ended, throughout the country.

During World War I and World War ll, many men were sent to fight, leaving jobs without workers.
In World War Il, this led to millions of women joining the workforce as factory workers, nurses, and clerks

After the war, many women continued to work outside the home, which helped change attitudes about women in the workforce.
Women had shown they could do important jobs and contribute to society.

In 1969, two astronauts landed on the Moon An American astronaut, Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon.
Many people saw the 1969 Moon Landing on television and were excited about it. Young people became more interested in studying science and math in school.

The United States was the first country to land a person on the Moon.
The 1969 Moon Landing helped scientists learn new things about space and the Moon.
It led to new inventions such as solar panels and cordless power tools. It also led to other space missions and caused people to dream about exploring space.

The Dot-Com Boom helped bring the internet to more people. This opened new opportunities for people to learn, work, and play.
It also affected how people shop and do business. Many companies started selling products online,which made it easier and more convenient for people to buy things.
