The heart is made of muscle.

The left side contains oxygenated blood.

The right side contains deoxygenated blood.

Do you remember how can we tell what's the left and what's the right?

The Heart

5

Draw

On the diagram, label the left and right sides of the heart

6

media

The heart has 4 chambers.

The left and right atrium.

The left and right ventricles.

Where are these chambers? I've labelled the first one for you.

There are three types of blood vessels:

Arteries
Veins
Capillaries

Do you remember the table we completed in class?

Capillaries

In your jotter, find the note you took about the role of capillaries. This will be next to your blood vessel table.

Open Ended

What is the role of capillaries and how do their structure aid their function?

17

Time to brain dump!

Using the sheet provided, you have 5 minutes to write down everything you know about the heart. You can include diagrams.

You will be allowed to take these notes into the assessment.

The lungs take oxygen into the

blood and remove waste carbon

dioxide
from the blood. They are

therefore known as the organs

of gas exchange.

The Lungs

19

Draw

Use the following information to label the underlined structures.

Air enters the body through the mouth and passes the voicebox, on its way down the windpipe (trachea).

The windpipe splits into two bronchi.

The bronchi split again and again, into bronchioles.

The bronchioles end in tiny microscopic air sacs (alveoli), there are millions in each lung and are the site of gas exchange.
