Vocabulary in Context Questions

There are 2 ways to approach vocabulary in context questions.

1: Imagine a blank where the word in question is, then fill in the blank with whatever word fits best. Try to match your word with an answer option.

OR

2: Plug each of the answer options in where the word in question is located. If more than one option sounds right, pay attention to the context again to pick the best possible choice.

7.1 Entrance Ticket p. 124

Alex hated the detention room because it was devoid of

air conditioning. It was June and incredibly hot. But Alex was
mad for a multitude of other reasons. He didn’t even start
the food fight in the cafeteria. The teachers were
indiscriminate in picking out the instigators from the crowd
and were still deciding on the proper punishment; they went
for everyone covered in the daily soup special. When asked
who provoked the food fight, Alex said nothing. He truly
didn’t know.

Alex looked out the window and then at Mr.

Washington. The teacher was engrossed in a fishing book.
Alex looked toward the door. Maybe he could make a run for
it. Was he brazen enough to do it? He wasn’t known to be
brave. Alex grinned.

There was only one way to find out.
