• Have you ever travelled to a city where there were many tourists? What was your experience like?

• In the Canary Islands, tourists come and stay here for days, weeks or months. Do you reckon they bring more benefits than drawbacks?

Interaction time: 6-7 minutes (2 students), 7-8 minutes (3 students)

Student A:

• Tourism brings a lot of money to a destination.

• It creates intense environmental pressure.

Student C:

• The facilities and services of a city could be improved due to tourism.

• There could be an increase in crime.

Student B:

• Tourism creates many jobs.

• Cultural identities could be affected.

It is said that global tourism is destroying the environment and cultural identities. Why is this happening? How are cities changing due to tourism? What can we do to change this trend? Talk to your partners about this issue. Student A starts the conversation.
