Definition Argument

We will: Analyze the genre characteristics of a definition
argument by identifying the claim and relevant evidence in

an article.

I will: Identify the claim in the article and explain how the

evidence supports it, demonstrating an understanding of

the definition argument structure.

What is Friendship?

With a classmate discuss how you define friendship.

Then, use a notecard to write your definition of friendship.

As you read focus on:

●What is the main question the author is
looking to answer?

●What traits are important in a good friend?

●Why is friendship important ?

**Reminders**
Be sure to use your highlight tool to identify the
main idea of the article and the evidence that
supports it.

Breaking Up the Text:

With a partner (or independently ), divide the text into sections.

Highlight text between paragraphs to illustrate where a
section ends and a new one begins.

Once you have highlighted the section use the annotation
