We are now moving on to step two (Airline), before we move on I would like you to correctly identify services and facilities in an airport.
Using this image, correctly identify what is a facility and what ones are services. Once you have done this include a brief explanation of the service that is being provided in your books.

CREATE A GUIDE
To create your guide, you need to choose one UK airport out of the following to research:
London Heathrow Airport
London Gatwick Airport
London Stansted Airport
The two airlines should differ in service for example one can be low cost (Ryanair) and one
can be scheduled luxury service (Emirates).
Include a bibliography
7
STEP ONE
The airport
Your first step is to identify an airport from the 3 UK options. In your guide you need
to include the facilities and services on offer in the airport. Depending on size and
type of airlines on offer the specific services and facilities may differ.
8
AIRLINES
STEP TWO
9
STEP TWO
AIRLINE
Once you have completed step one, I would like you to identify at least two airlines and include the following information
for each airline:
The service they offer (Low cost, scheduled, Charter).
Facilities and services the airline offer.
Make a comparison of the levels of service they offer to passengers, the difference in the booking system and prices
and destinations.
10
STEP TWO HELP
SERVICES THEY OFFER
You have previously been tasked with identifying the different services airlines offer. Now I would like you to use that knowledge to
successfully identify an airline and identify this to the correct service.
An example of how you could set this out in your guide could be as follows:
Please do not copy, this would not pass.
Ryanair is a low-cost airline which operates out of London Stansted Airport. The Low-cost status means the airline offers passengers
the flight with the base ticket and only the flight, charging extra for checked In luggage, chosen seats and food on board.
The facilities Ryanair offer are also set at a minimum not offering passengers a lounge and charge extra for a physical check in. The
services Ryanair offer for an extra fee include travel insurance, priority boarding, baggage services such checked baggage and cabin
up to 10 KG, package deals such as hotels with flights and as a final service Ryanair offer Ryanair plus (loyalty programme).
Please include pictures for things such as facilities to further support your findings.

BOOKING PROCESS * RYANAIR EXAMPLE
Ryanair's booking system is a comprehensive platform that enables users to search for flights, make reservations, purchase add-ons,
and manage their bookings. The system is designed to be user-friendly while also supporting the airline's low-cost business model,
which often involves additional charges for extra services.
Key to the company’s transformation though is the ”My Ryanair” platform. The platform, created in collaboration with Comtrade,
is intended to make it easier for regular Ryanair travellers to book, check in or amend a booking.
Key Features of Ryanair’s Booking System:
•User-Friendly Interface: Designed for ease of use, the Ryanair website and app offer a seamless booking experience with clear
options for seat selection, baggage, and additional services.
•Dynamic Pricing and Upselling: The system uses dynamic pricing and often prompts passengers to purchase additional services,
such as baggage, priority boarding, or extra seat options.
•Low-Cost Model: While the base ticket price is generally low, Ryanair’s revenue comes from additional charges, which are an integral
part of the booking system.
•Mobile Integration: Ryanair’s app supports most features of the booking system, including flight search, booking, check-in, and
boarding pass management, making it convenient for on-the-go travellers.
12
SEATING *RYANAIR
EXAMPLE
Standard Seating
•Basic Seat: All Ryanair passengers are
allocated a standard seat as part of their
ticket. These seats are typically non-
reclining and are in the economy class
section of the aircraft.
•Seat Selection Fee: If you want to select
a specific seat (such as a window or
aisle seat), you’ll need to pay an
additional fee. The cost of seat selection
depends on the seat's location e.g.,
front, middle, or rear of the plane.
Extra Legroom Seats: These seats
are in the front rows or exit rows and
offer additional space for your legs.
These seats usually come at a higher
price due to the extra comfort.
13
AIRLINES
When writing about the airlines you need to
research the airline, it services and facilities
and include this fundamental information in
the guide. Ensure the two airlines you write
about differ in the quality of service for
example Low-cost and Scheduled.
14
ACTIVITY 1:
AIRLINE SERVICE CHART
I will Divide you into small groups and in your groups, you will choose an airline to research.
Next you will work towards the following criteria in the template:
Booking process/system
In-flight Services (e.g., meals, entertainment)
Seating Comfort
Baggage Allowance
Customer Service
Passenger Type
Price
Destinations
Each group will fill in the chart with information
gathered from the airlines' official websites,
customer reviews, and travel forums.
After completing the chart, in groups you will
present your findings to the class.
Remember for Task A you will be doing this
for two airlines independently, this should
help with your research.
