​A比較級を用いた表現 ２つの物や人を比べ，「～よりも…」という意味を表すときに使う

～よりも…だ

①原級-er+than～　←主に 　 　 文字までの単語に多い
②more+原級+than～　←主に　 　　 文字以上の単語に多い

You are taller than John.

問1 中国はインド(India)より大きい。　 *largeを使う　

​ 応用
<数+単位　比較級>　2つの差を具体的な数値で表す。
1. My brother is four years older than me.


<much 比較級>「はるかに～」２つの差が大きいことを表したい。
3. Kevin looks much younger than he really is.（ケビンは実際（の年齢）よりもだいぶ若く見えます。）
問2 この写真はあの写真よりはるかに美しい。

〈less＋原級＋than ～〉　「～より…ない」（否定）
2. Plastics are usually less eco-friendly than paper. 　環境に優しくない （通常プラスチックは紙よりも環境に優しくありません。）

問3 彼は彼女ほど賢くない。　*less　 *smart　を使う。

​B　最上級を用いた表現 ３つ以上の物や人を比べ「もっとも～，いちばん～」という意味を表すときに用います。

基本
①the 原級-est+in[of]～　←主に 文字までの単語に多い
②the most+原級＋in[of]～　←主に 文字以上の単語に多い
John is the smartest in the world.



問4 富士山(Mt. Fuji)は日本で一番高い。　*highを使う 応用 　「断然～だ」

4. Yuna is by far the best student in our class. （結奈は私たちのクラスでとびぬけて優秀な生徒です。）



「もっとも～でない」　（否定）
5. This is the least important thing on my mind right now.　最も重要でない （これは今，私の中でもっとも重要でないことです。）

〈比較級(-er)＋and＋比較級(-er)〉　「さらに～，ますます～」
※convincedなど長い語(主に6文字以上)の場合は〈more and more ～〉
6. I became more and more convinced that Tom was lying. （私はトムが嘘をついていると，さらに確信するようになりました。）

＜no more than ～＞　「～しか」 onlyに言い換え可能です。
7.No more than four people came to the first meeting. （第1回目の会議にはわずか4人しか来ませんでした。）

＜not more than ～　＞「せいぜい～」
8.The museum is not more than ten minutes’ walk from the station. （その美術館は駅からせいぜい歩いて10分です。）
