"Think about a time when you were telling
someone about a fun event, like a birthday party
or a sports game. If you said, 'I ran to the party,' it
tells them you ran, but how could adding adverbs
like 'I ran quickly to the party' or 'I ran excitedly to
the party' make your story more interesting? How
do adverbs help you explain exactly how
something happened in a way that makes it more

"Imagine you’re describing how you played a game with your
friends. If you just said, 'I played the game,' it doesn’t give
much detail. But if you say, 'I played the game enthusiastically'
or 'I played the game carefully,' you can really show how you
felt or how you were playing. How do you think using adverbs
like these can help someone understand your experience
better? Can you think of a time when you used adverbs to
make a story more exciting or clear?"

revisions that should be made. Then answer the questions that follow.
The Hike
(1) The morning air was crisp as we prepared for our
hike up the mountain. (2) We packed our bags with
water and snacks careful before heading out. (3) The
trail was steep, and the tall trees shaded us from the
sun. (4) We stopped frequent along the way to enjoy

How should sentence 2 be changed?
(2) We packed our bags with water and snacks careful before heading out.
C.Change
careful to
carefully
A.Change
packed
to packs
B.Insert
comma
after
water
D.Change
heading
to headed
This is not correct because
‘packed’ is already the right
word to show an action we
did in the past.
This is not correct because there’s
no need for a comma after ‘water.’
The words ‘water and snacks’ are
a simple list and don’t need extra
punctuation.
This is correct because ‘careful’ is
an adjective, but we need an
adverb here to describe how we
packed. ‘Carefully’ tells us how we
packed the bags.
This is not correct
because ‘heading out’ is
already the right phrase
to show we are going
somewhere.
