Today you will learn to:

● Square a number

●To square a number you use the exponent of 2.

○ Exponent is the small number next to the base number (i.e 3²) 2 is
the exponent.

● Squaring a number and taking the square root of the number mean two
different things.

●To square a number you multiply that number by itself.
○Looks like this: 3^2.

○3² is the same as 3x3. The 3 is multiplied by itself.

○3² = 9

4² (4x4) = ____

You do:

5² (5x5)= _____

Now let's solve equations using the exponent of 2 (Squares)

● 3² + 7² = ??

○ 3 x 3 = 9 and 7 x 7 = 49

○ 9 + 49 = 58

●5² + 2² = ??

○5 x 5 = 25 and 2 x 2 = 4

○ 25+ 4 = 29
