To square a number you use the exponent of 2.

Exponent is the small number next to the base number (i.e 32) 2 is
the exponent.

Squaring a number and taking the square root of the number mean two
different things.

To square a number you multiply that number by itself.
Looks like this: 32.

32 is the same as 3x3. The 3 is multiplied by itself.

32 = 9

We do:

42 (4x4) = ____

You do:

Now let's solve equations using the exponent of 2 (Squares)

32 + 72 = ??

3 x 3 = 9 and 7 x 7 = 49

9 + 49 = 58

6

52 + 22 = ??

5 x 5 = 25 and 2 x 2 = 4
