Directories, Folders, and Files

All starts with the OS

The Operating System (OS) handles how files are stored and organized

Common operating systems: Windows, Linux, MACos, Android.

All saves to hard drives, starting with C: and going alphabetically from there.

Files syntax: fileName.datatype

A collection of data stored in the memory as one singular object.

The type of data stored is based on the file type:
- .txt : a plain text document
- .mp4 : stores video and audio data
- .png : holds images with over 10x the data size as .JPEG
- .gif : another low size data type that cans tore animated images

Folder

​A digital container for storing and organizing files

Hierarchal File System:
- Folders can have subfolders inside of them for organization.

Subfolders are also call child folders tot he parent folders they are in.

Think of folders like Manila folders in a filing cabinet

For a text file called file.txt, and a subfolder called mini in a folder called max, in the computers main hard drive, it would read:

C:\max\mini\file.txt

Syntax

Refers to the whole hierarchy of folders including all subfolders
