Objective: Compare the branches of government in the Texas Constitution to the U.S. Constitution. Today we will focus on the TX government. 7.13B

Essential Question: Explain the similarities and differences between the departments/branches of the Texas and U.S. governments.

How often are meetings held? Second Tuesday of January in odd-numbered years.
*Texas Legislature MAKES LAWS

​Other Members of the Executive Department: Lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller of public accounts, commissioner of agriculture, to name a few.

Role regarding laws: Enforce the laws passed by the legislature.

Other Duties: Call special sessions and set the agenda, martial laws, call national guard, pardon criminals, appoint judges.

​Head of the Judicial Department: Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeals.
Other members of the Judicial Department: Court of Appeals, District Courts, Regular and Special County Courts, Municipal Courts and Justice of the Peace Courts.
