  • The immune system is made up of special organs, cells and chemicals that fight infection

  • The main parts of the immune system are: white blood cells, antibodies, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus, and the bone marrow.

How Does the Immune System Fight Bacteria?

  • The body reacts to disease-causing bacteria by increasing local blood flow (inflammation)

  • Sends white blood cells to attack and destroy the bacteria.

  • Antibodies produced attach to the bacteria and help in their destruction and prevent new infections
