Layers of the Atmosphere
2
The Layers of Earth's Atmosphere
3
Troposphere
the layer of the atmosphere closest to the earth, in which the air moves in all directions. It is where most of Earth's weather takes place.
4
Stratosphere
The layer of the Earth's atmosphere that lies above the troposphere. It has very little water vapor and other gases present.
OZONE LAYER forms here.
5
Mesosphere
The part of the atmosphere between the stratosphere and thermosphere in which the temperature decreases in altitude.
6
Thermosphere
The highest level of the atmosphere.
7
Ionosphere
The ionosphere is a very active part of the atmosphere, and it grows and shrinks depending on the energy it absorbs from the Sun. The name ionosphere comes from the fact that gases in these layers are excited by solar radiation to form ions, which have an electrical charge.
Auroras, Northern Lights occur in the ionosphere.
8
Exosphere
The outer region of the atmosphere.
