Grade 5/6 Percentages

2

given number ÷ whole number × 100

How do we calculate percentages?

Example: How does Ms. Cassidy mark your homework?

If Daniel achieves 25/32 on

his assignment:

25 ÷ 32 = 0.78

0.78 × 100 = 78

We know that Daniel achieved 78% on his homework!

What if we dont have the given number?

If we don't have that given number, we have to use a different equation.

Example: What if we know that Daniel achieved 80% on his assignment that was out of 40 marks, but we don't know how many points he achieved?

?/40 = 80%

40 × 80 = 3200

3200 ÷ 100 = 32

We know that Daniel achieved

32 points out of 40 in his

assignment!
