Today we will write fractions and mixed numbers as decimals

Vocabulary

• terminating decimal: has a finite number of decimal places. For example 0.75

• repeating decimal: has a block of one or more digits that repeat without end. For example 0.777...

• Examples of repeating decimals: 0.89898989... & 0.12341234...

How to turn fractions into decimals

• divide the numerator by the denominator

• for mixed numbers, bring the whole number out to the side before dividing the numerator and denominator
