Integers on the Number Line

Integers can be best described using the number line. It shows that as the integers gets further to the right or up on the number line, the value increases. As it goes further to the left or down on the number line, the value decreases.

Number lines are of two different types:

1.) vertical number line - top to bottom

2.) horizontal number - left to right

3

Draw

Complete the number line below.

4

Fill in the Blank

Without visualizing on the number, what integer is halfway from -5 to 5?

5

Open Ended

What integer on the number line is 2 units to the left of -3?

6

Draw

Fill in the missing integers on the given number line below.

7

Coordinate Grid/Cartesian Coordinate Plane

Y-axis - it is the vertical number line in the coordinate grid.

X - axis - it is the horizontal number of the coordinate grid.

Origin - the point where the vertical and the horizontal number line intersect each other. The coordinates are (0, 0). x = 0, y = 0

Ordered Pair - a pair of number (x, y) used to represent a point on the coordinate grid. The first number is always the x - coordinate, the second number is the y-coordinate.

Quadrants - these are the regions formed when the vertical and horizontal number lines intersect on the plane. There are 4 quadrants: Q - I, Q-II, Q-III, , and Q-IV; and they are named counterclockwise.

8

Draw

Label the parts of the coordinate grid.(x-axis, y-axis, origin, Q-I, Q-II, Q-III, Q-IV

9

Multiple Choice

10

Multiple Choice

Without plotting the point (2, -7). What quadrant it belongs?

1

Q-I

2

Q-II

3

Q-III

4

11

Draw

Plot the point: (-2, -2).

12

Fill in the Blank

What point is 2 units to the right and 3 units above the origin?

13

Fill in the Blank

What part of the coordinate grid is (0, 3) located?

(x - axis, y - axis, origin, Q-I, Q-II, Q-III, Q-IV.)
