Vocabulary:

  • A sample space lists all the possible outcomes of an event.

  • An outcome is the result of something that could or did happen.

  • A group or set of one or more desired outcomes is called an event.

  • A simple event is an event in which only one outcome can occur.

  • Probability is the likelihood that an event will occur. Probability can be described using numbers (fractions, decimals, and percent) or words ranging from impossible to certain.

  • The likelihood that an event will occur can be described in different ways, ranging from impossible, to equally likely, to certain.
