Monitoring is about us checking how well we are doing in terms of improving our weakness.
What does this mean for us?
Monitoring is the process of regularly checking your progress. Monitoring your PDP allows you to see how effective your approach is and gives you the data that informs future development.
What is monitoring?
Monitoring
3
Explain why it is necessary to monitor our PDP (3)
Let's start by breaking this down...
The command word is EXPLAIN. This means that we should be following a PEI structure. Provide a reason (POINT), explain why it is important/beneficial (EXAMPLE) and then the impact it has on the process of improving your weakness (IMPACT).
4
Re-test your Physical Factor to compare your new result to your first one
Re-test your Mental Factor to compare your new result to your first one
Re-Testing
Success rate against short-term target
Match scores against short-term target
Internal thoughts and feelings about how we feel we are doing
Teacher feedback about how he/she thinks we are doing
Training Diary
The two main methods of monitoring are recording information using our training diary and re-testing.

REASON FOR = EXPLAIN
Monitoring is necessary as it allows me to judge if my PDP and choice of approaches are effective...
Monitoring is necessary as it can boost my motivation levels...
'NECESSARY' = IMPACT
This means I can see if I am improving or not. If I am improving, I can look to move on to a more challenging approach. Whereas, if I am not improving I may need to change and adapt my plan by changing the approach, changing the structure of my week, changing the time spent on my approach etc.
What could happen to your motivation levels if you see improvements?
Then, what could happen to your effort levels as a result?
Then, what could happen to your progress as a result?

REASON FOR = EXPLAIN
Monitoring is necessary as it can allow targets to be reset or new targets to be made if they have already been met...
Monitoring is necessary because I can measure my progress by making comparisons between pre and post results...
Monitoring is necessary because it can identify when I have achieved enough and allow me to identify any new area of development that may be more of a priority...
'NECESSARY' = IMPACT
What could happen to our planning if we can adjust targets or make new targets?
What will this do for my level of confidence if I can see where I was compared to where I am now?
What might this mean for my effort?
What will this do for me if I can redirect my focus to something new and more important?

Below is a 'high standard' model of a 1 mark answer following the PEI structure.
There are a number of reasons why it is necessary to monitor my performance development. (P)
First of all, monitoring is necessary because I can judge how effective my PDP and choice of approaches have been in developing my performance. (E)
This will let me see if I am improving or not. Should monitoring allow to see that my results and performance are improving this could mean that my plan is working and I could keep working in the same way or even progress it. However, if monitoring allows me to see little to no progress is being made I can change my plan and my approaches to better suit my needs by making it more realistic to my ability level. For example, if I am not improving in movement repetition drills, monitoring would help me make the decision to take a step back to static repetition drills. (I)

To ensure you are providing enough detail you may wish to add another EXAMPLE and IMPACT.
We have discussed 5 in this lesson so the content is there for you to work from.
