You could think of a Hip or Hipped roof as "Sloping on all sides"

This is because the Roof leans in to the building.

The Roof leans against the building at an angle.

This allows water to run off into the guttering.

This is because the roof is almost flat.

It is not actually FLAT
otherwise water would not run off in to the guttering.

Usually the angle that the roof slopes is around
10 degrees.
