Fossil process!
Fossil-Bearing sedimentery rocks (rocks formed from sediments such as sand, silt, or mud) are found all over the world. The present rates at which sediments are layed down and turned into rock are very slow. It would take millions of years to form the rock layers that we see today. Scientists are attempt to find out the ages of rocks by a process called dating. And no its not your typical dating!

2 WAYS TO DO THIS
Their are 2 ways to do this process relative dating and absolute dating. Relative dating is rock layers that are being compared to other layers near them. Absolute dating relies on the known rates of radioactive decay of certain elements found in igneous rocks.

Carbon
Most of the carbon on earth exists as carbon 12. But a very small fraction of carbon exists as radioactive carbon-14, which decays into carbon-12. Plants and animals take in carbon while they are alive including some carbon-14.
7
Multiple Select
True or False: The carbon that exists on earth is carbon-14 not carbon 12.
True
False
8
Wait... how many years!
It is belived that carbon -14 dating can be used to date fossils only up to 100,000 years old! That's a LOT of years!
