How to solve for Percent

• There are 42 students in Master Roshi's class

• 16 of the students are from Goku's home planet Vegeta

• What percent is from Planet Vegeta?

• Remember:

   $\frac{part}{whole}\ =\ \frac{\%}{100}\ =\ \frac{is}{of}$

With Master Roshi's training, Goku beats Frieza 20 times out of every 25 fights. What percent of the time does Goku win his battles?

How to solve for the Part

•  Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo have to save at least 96% of the classes at U.A. High School from Tomura Shigaraki .

How to find the Whole

Lets solve this!

• 4% is equal to

   $\frac{4}{100}$  

• 800 is our total or whole

•  $\frac{4}{100}\ =\ \ \frac{x}{800}$  

• Cross Multiply

• x = 32

• Out of 800 applicants, only 32 became hunters

You don't have to use the Proportion way

• The other method would work for this too

•  $\frac{4}{100}\ of\ 800\ =\ \frac{4}{100}\ x\ 800$  

• In the calculator you enter $4\div100\ =\ .04$  then  $.04\ x\ 800\ =\ 32$

I know.. some of you aren't IN LOVE WITH PROPORTIONS! So here is the other way:

Change 5% into a fraction

 $5\%\ =\ \frac{5}{100}$  
Then Multiply it by the amount we know
 $\frac{5}{100}\ of\ 700\ is\ \frac{5}{100}\ x\ 700$  
In your calculator you divide 5 by 100 then multiply by 700
 $5\div100\ =\ .05\ then\ .05\ x\ 700\ =\ 32$
