Compare Past Simple & Past Continuous
Past Simple - Used when the action is mentioned and understood to have taken place in the past. The action started and ended sometime in the past but time may or may not be mentioned.
Past Continuous - Used when the action was ongoing at a certain time in the past. This tense is used to describe an action which was in progress in the past.
