Open Ended

Consider the definition of a foil (A character used in literature with contrasting qualities/traits to another character(s) to intentionally highlight the traits of the other character) Can you think of other FOILS in literature/movies?

Irony

• A rhetorical device, literary technique, or event in which what is expected is different from what actually occurs

Reading Focus

• Annotate Celia's characteristics and consider how they contrast with Hilly's character

• Consider the irony in this chapter... What event is ironic? What is the point that the high society women are completely missing?
