A quadrilateral is a plane figure with 4 sides and 4 angles. There are many different kinds of quadrilaterals, some of which are shown in the chart below. You can classify and sort quadrilaterals into different groups.

Some shapes can be classified in multiple ways because it fits the properties of each shape. For example a rhombus has to have four equal sides. A square has to have 4 equal sides and 4 right angles. So a square has to be a rhombus but a rhombus does not have to be a square.
