Polygons and Triangles

2
Polygons
A polygon is a closed plane figure made up of line segments.
Each line segment is a side.
The point where the two sides meet is called a vertex.
3
Polygon
Closed plane figure.
Closed plane figure means that every side of the figure joins two other sides.
4
Multiple Choice
Is this polygon a closed plane figure or an open plane figure?

Examples and non-examples of Polygons
A figure is NOT a polygon if it is NOT made up of line segments.

Which figures are NOT polygons
9
How to name polygons
Polygons can have any number of sides as long as they follow the rules of a polygon.
Once we get past 8 sides, we usually start saying how many sides the polygon has and "sided polygon" at the end.
Example: 13-sided polygon
10
Multiple Choice
Name this polygon

12
Classifying Triangles
Triangles are classified by their sides and their angles
13
Equilateral
An equilateral triangle has three equal sides.
14
Isosceles Triangle
An isosceles triangle has two equal sides.
15
Scalene triangle
A scalene triangle has zero equal sides.
16
Multiple Choice
Which triangle is an equilateral?

Multiple Choice
Which triangle is an isosceles?
19
Right triangle
A right triangle has a right angle.
A right angle is 90 degrees.
20
Acute triangle
An acute triangle has three acute angles.
An acute angle is less than 90 degrees.
21
Obtuse triangle
An obtuse triangle has one obtuse angle.
An obtuse angle is bigger than 90 degrees.
22
