Steps for Taking BP

  • PLace cuff above antecubital area

  • Palpate brachial artery

  • place stethoscope over artery

  • pump cuff up to 140-180mmHg

  • open the bulb very slowly at a rate of 2-3mm/sec

  • list for the first sound, note the reading on the gauge(systolic pressure)

  • continue to release the air until sound becomes soft or muffled, note the reading on the guage, (diastolic pressure)
