In which state is it least?
7
Why is water important?
body processes & Habitats
Water allows organisms to break down food, grow and reproduce, and get and use materials they need from their environments.
Water provides habitats for organisms such as sharks, as well as microscopic organisms too!

where is water found?
most of earth's surface water---roughly 97 percent---is salt water found in oceans. only 3 percent is fresh water!!
Most water on Earth is found in oceans. The Pacific Ocean is the largest, covering an area greater than all the land on Earth! Much of Earth's fresh water is frozen in sheets of ice! Rivers and lakes contain freshwater. Groundwater is also freshwater.

To find fresh water on Earth, you need to look underground. When it rains or snows, water soaks into the ground.
groundwater
All rivers and lakes marked on the map contain freshwater. The Great Lakes in North America make up about 20% of all the water in the worlds freshwater lakes

Groundwater
When it rains or snows, water that does not evaporate soaks into the ground. The water trickles through spaces between particles of soil and rock. Water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers is called groundwater. Far more freshwater is located underground than in all of Earth's rivers and lakes.
