liberal feminism

• Concerned with getting equal rights with men and the need to overcome prejudice and discrimination through legislation and changes in our lives

Radical feminism

• Sees a basic conflict between men and women and see all societies as patriarchal (male-dominated)

• They believe that male power is deeply embedded in society and that radical changes are needed to change this

• Some radical feminists advocate that women live separately from men

Combined Marxist and socialist feminists

• The exploitation of women is an aspect of the class structure of capitalism

• Employers use women as a reserve army of labour, male workers try to exclude women from skilled work and husbands benefit from their wives ' unpaid work

• Radical feminists see patriarchy (male domination) as the problem but for Marxists feminists it's both patriarchy and capitalism

Black feminism

• Some African-American and African-Caribbean women have formed their own groups distinct from the main feminist movement in reaction to the idea that all women are essentially in the same exploited situation

• They see racism and ethnicity as part of the explanation of the situation of ethnic minority women​

Developments

• By the late 20th century men tended to assume that women had achieved equality and that it was no longer necessary to take gender into consideration.

• Some felt that feminism had gone too far; others think that the main goals had been achieved.

Criticisms

• Some felt that feminism was becoming too negative

• While it was clear what feminism opposed, the solutions it sought were not

• Current backlash in the media: career women sacrificing the joys of motherhood and marriage​
