Multiply Decimals with Grids

The activity of Decimal's Multiplication

Class VII

Objective- To represent the products of the following decimal numbers on a Grid Papers:

• (a) 0.3 X 0.7

• (b) 0.5 X 0.5

Material Required:

• (a) Six Grid Papers

• (b) Two Sketch pens ( Red and Blue)

Theory

• (a) 0.3 X 0.7 = 0.21

• (b) 0.5 X 0.5 = 0.25

Step 1

Take one 10 X 10 grid paper and shade three columns using red sketch pens. This represents 0.3.

Step 2

Take one 10 X 10 grid paper and shade seven rows using blue sketch pens. This represents 0.7.

Step 3

Take another 10 X 10 grid paper, shade three columns with a red sketch pen, and seven rows using blue sketch pens. the common shaded region in the grid paper is 0.21.
