Comparative adjectives

  • We use comparative adjectives to compare two things, places or people.

  • We form comparatives by adding -er to adjectives with one syllable or adjectives with two syllables ending in -y

    E.g. small - smaller / easy - easier

Comparative adjectives

  • For adjectives with more than one syllable, we use more + adjective

    E.g. difficult - more difficult

  • We use than after comparative adjectives

    E.g. Buenos aires is bigger than Tucuman.

Superlative adjectives

  • We use superlative adjectives to compare more than two things, places or people.

  • We form superlatives by adding -est to adjectives with one syllable or adjectives with two syllables ending in -y

    E.g. small - smallest / difficult - most difficult

Superlative adjectives

  • For adjectives with more than one syllable , we use most + adjective

  • We use the before superlative adjectives and we use in after the adjective

This is the smallest table in the shop
This is the most expensive table in the shop
London is the biggest city in England.

Irregular adjectives

GOOD, BAD and FAR are irregular adjectives and they have a different comparative and superlative form.

GOOD - BETTER - BEST
BAD - WORSE - WORST
FAR - FURTHER - FURTHEST
