Artificial Selection
Humans choosing what traits to pass down
2
Natural selection
Traits that are passed down naturally.
Occurs due to survivability of organisms.
Traits that don't help organisms survive die off.
3
Artificial Selection
Does not occur naturally.
Humans influence or choose what traits are passed down to offspring.
3 types can occur:
Selective breeding
Inbreeding
Hybridization
4
Artificial Selection
Selective breeding- organisms with desirable traits are made to reproduce to enhance or ensure the traits are passed down.
Inbreeding- This occurs when humans make offspring reproduce to enforce the desired trait. When the same population of an organism are bred together, more offspring will get recessive genes that cause disease or deformity.
Hybridization- breeding organisms with different desired traits to create offspring with both traits

Multiple Choice
A farmer buys a bull that grows really large very quickly to breed with his cows so their offspring can produce more meat. Which type of artificial selection is this?
Selective breeding
Inbreeding
Hybridization
6
Multiple Choice
A dog breeder has a dog that doesn't shed a lot of fur and another dog that is very friendly. The dog breeder breeds the two dogs to create offspring that are great for families. Which type of artificial selection is this?
Selective breeding
Inbreeding
Hybridization
7
Multiple Choice
Pugs used to have longer snouts but due to pure breeding they tend to have shorter noses and difficulty breathing. This is an example of which type of artificial selection?
Selective breeding
Inbreeding
Hybridization
