A digraph is a combination of two letters that make a single sound

A consonant digraph is made up from two consonants which join together to produce a single sound.

​CH makes three sounds in English

​most commonly /tʃ/: chair, child, church,  catch, march,   & watch. 

​CH a /k/ sound in words of Greek origin

​

​character, Christian, chorus, chronological

​CH has the /ʃ/ (‘sh’) sound in words of French origin like champagne or machine

​

GH is pronounced /g/ in word like spaghetti .

​GH makes the /f/ sound: cough, enough, laugh, rough, tough

​

​

​PH makes the sound of /f/: graph, phone, phonics
