Plot and Character Analysis

Plot
The chain of events in a narrative.
Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution are all parts of a plot.

Exposition
The beginning. Establishes a setting and the characters. Set's the story up and gives background information.

Rising Action
Builds or develops the problem in the story. The events that lead to the height of the action.

Climax
The height of the action in a story. The turning point of the story.

Falling Action
How the problems in the rising action are solved. What happens after the turning point. How the story begins to end.

Resolution
The ending of the story. All loose ends are tied up.

Theme
The lesson or moral of the story.
A theme can be applied to other stories as well.
THE MEssage

Inner Conflict
The struggles of the narrator that are in their thoughts. We can read their thoughts and see what their problem is.
Can be in 1st person writing or 3rd person omniscient or limited - not 3rd or 2nd person!
(Those narrators can't read the thoughts of characters)
Always moves the plot forward.
