9

What is rate of reaction?

This refers to the speed at which the reactants are turned into a product. Not all reactions happen in the same time frame. Some reactions can be:

  • slow for example rusting of an iron.

  • moderate for example the reaction between magnesium and an acid

  • fast for example explosions

What is rate of reaction?

1

I don't know!

2

The speed at which the reactants get turned into a product.

Factors that affects the rate of reactions

Four main factors affect how quickly a reaction goes. Two factors are:

  • temperature- the higher the temperature the faster the reaction

  • concentration- the less concentrated the reactants are the slower the reaction

17

Multiple Choice

What is the function of the catalyst in a reaction?

1

to lower the activation energy thus increasing the rate of reaction

2

the increase the activation energy thus increasing the rate of reaction

Multiple Choice

Does the enzyme gets used up in the reaction?

1

Yes

2

No

3

Maybe

19

Factors that affects the rate of reactions

Four main factors affect how quickly a reaction goes. Two factors are:

  • surface area / particle size- the larger the surface area the faster the reaction

  • catalyst- reaction with a catalyst is faster than without a catalyst
