We use "and" to connect two similar ideas.
-The girl is tall and thin.
-I like waffle and cheesecake as a dessert.
-The old man gives candies to the children and he makes the children happy.

SO
We use "so" to explain the effect something.
-He is deaf so he can't hear you.
-Brian is overweight, so he can't run fast.
-I have got an example tomorrow, so I'm studying hard.

BECAUSE
We use "because" to explain the cause of something.
-She always gets poor marks in the exams because she doesn't study.
-I want to go to bed early tonight because I'm to tired.
-We can't buy that car because it's too expensive.

BUT
We use "but" to join two contrasting ideas.
-They like swimming but I hate milk.
-I like cheese but I hate milk.
-Penguins swimm well, but they can't fly.
-Mr. Burns likes cruise holidays, but her wife prefers cultural holidays.
