1
x-axis
Horizontal number line. (REMEMBER x-axis goes across like an x)
y-axis
Vertical number line. (REMEMBER the y has the line that goes up and down)
coordinate plane
The intersection of the x-axis and y-axis
ordered pair
Two numbers that are the location of a point on the coordinate plane. (REMEMBER x comes before y in the alphabet (x,y).
The Coordinate Plane
2
The x and y-axis separate the coordinate plane into four regions called Quadrants.
To remember the quadrants to put a C in the middle of the coordinate plane.
Trace the C with your finger starting at the top
Quadrant I is at the top and move counter-clockwise until you get to the bottom of C, Quadrant 4.
If the ordered pair (x,0), it is located on the x-axis.
If ordered pair (0,y), it is located on the y-axis.
